Adding to its reinvention of itself, the once cookery show-infested SyFy Channel is adding another brilliant looking series to its line up with the mind boggling 12 Monkeys! Remember that movie? With Bruce Willis where he… Yeah and then… Umm, something to do with a zoo, but not really it was a terrorist and then he… And Brad Pitt was crazy… Okay, enough of that.

My now-favourite channel has released a trailer for the new series starring Aaron Standford (X2: X-Men United) which is also based on the 1995 film by Terry Gilliam. I loved the movie loads but having a series follow our very confused hero-of-sorts James Cole screams of so much awesome I want to shout!

Of course the story will follow closely to the movie – Cole is sent from 2043 back in time to find the source of a plague that has wiped out the human race. Also like the movie he will have some allies, only not Brad Pitt this time. Instead Emily Hampshire plays Jennifer Goines and Dr. Cassandra Railly (who in the original he gets close to) is played by Amanda Shull (Suits).

Here’s the series synopsis:

12 Monkeys follows the journey of a time traveller, Cole, from the post-apocalyptic future. Using a dangerous and untested method of time travel, Cole arrives in the present day on a mission to locate and eradicate the source of a deadly plague that will eventually decimate 93.6% of the human race. Will Cole be able to save the fate of mankind or is mankind bound by fate? Taking place in the ravaged future of 2043 and the present day (2015), 12 Monkeys explores themes of destiny, fate, love and the possibility of second chances.

And here’s the trailer:

If that doesn’t get your time travel organs throbbing I don’t know what will! With the possibility that Continuum will not get picked up for a 4th season (Skyfy said it wouldn’t save the show if Showcase cancels it) my injection of time travel will have to come from this. That being said we still have to wait till 16 January 2015. Excite!
