While video game movie adaptations have a record spottier that 1001 Dalmations, I will admit that that I will happily watch any trailer that starts off with the rock-tastic guitar riff of Jimi Hendrix’s “Voodoo Child”. So that’s already one tick in the win column for Hitman: Agent 47, a second go-around at adapting the adventures of everybody’s favourite bald, bespoked badass that isn’t Jason Statham’s Transporter.
The first film, released back in 2007, saw Timothy Olyphant in the role as the genetically engineered assassin with weird taste in head tattoos, and was a mildly entertaining affair. Based on the first trailer, there’s nothing mild about this new version though. This time around it’s Homeland‘s Rupert Friend who plays the assassin codenamed “47”, and now affairs have apparently been scaled up exponentially – director Aleksander Bach must be a fan of the Fast & Furious school of franchise filmmaking – as we get all sorts of crazy, over the top action set-pieces that rely heavily on the CG (sometimes obviously so).
There’s also quite a fair bit of borrowing from other movies to be found here (Hey, Agent 47! Rorschach called, and he wants his catchphrase back!), but all in all it looks to just boast enough polished mayhem to maybe be an entertaining distraction. And honestly, I’ve come to not expect more than that from these video game flicks. Lets hope this doesn’t disappoint in that regard.
Based on the top-selling, award-winning videogame franchise, “Agent 47” is an all-new motion picture about an elite and genetically engineered assassin, known only by the last two digits – 47 – of a barcode tattooed on the back of his neck. His latest target is a young woman on the run from powerful and clandestine forces. The mission brings startling revelations about the lethal agent and his prey, hurtling them on a collision course with their pasts. And this time, his number may be up.
On top of the film’s trailer, a kinda creepy/kinda cool viral video has also been released, showing just how Agent 47 prevented this trailer from being leaked onto the internet early. Spoiler alert: It involves lot of people dying.
Hitman: Agent 47 also stars Zachary Quinto, Thomas Kretschmann, Ciaran Hinds and Hannah Ware. It will taking its shot in the cinema as from August 28, 2015.

Um, is there anything left to see in the movie?
