Janet Got a Gun Poster

When it comes to the messy production of Natalie Portman’s long-embattled western Jane Got a Gun, you could make a movie about the making of this movie. I’ve written all about its woes a few times previously, but here’s the Readers’ Digest version: Micheal Fassbender was originally cast opposite Portman as her titular Jane’s ex-lover who she has to turn to for help when her outlaw husband (played by Joel Edgerton) stumbles home with his bandit posse on his tail looking to settle some score. But then Fassbender fell out due to a scheduling conflict, prompting Edgerton to play musical chairs and take the vacated male lead role. Jude Law was then hired to take his now empty spot.

But then director Lynne Ramsay (We Need To Talk About Kevin), who Portman personally tapped to helm, infamously no-showed on the first day of shooting (the reasons why differ with each telling). Law, who really just wanted to work with Ramsay, followed her out the door, leading to a number of actors hired then unhired to fill the gap with the production eventually settling on Noel Emmerich as Jane’s husband with Ewan McGregor tapped to play the bandit leader.

Somewhere in all of that Warrior director Gavin O’Connor was also brought on board to replace Ramsay, which meant that the movie was now good to go, right? Wrong, as the film slipped from its early 2014 release date, being pushed back over and over again due to various reasons.

But now it appears that the movie is finally ready to be shown to the world, and as such a first trailer has been released. And amazingly, despite all the up and downs, it actually looks pretty darn good! Check it out below!

Jane Got a Gun (hopefully) opens internationally on November 25. There’s no word on a local release date yet.
