Despite several challengers to the throne, when it comes to YA adaptations, there’s really only one big elephant in the room. Only this elephant is rather good looking and pretty mean with a hunting bow. It’s also about to start it’s madcap dash on the final straight.

And now, before my horribly mixed metaphors have you thinking about a sexy, bow-shooting, crown wearing pachyderm sprinting to the finish line in some race, we should probably just check out the first proper trailer for The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, the penultimate chapter in the saga of Jennifer Lawrence’s Katniss Everdeen.

And as you can see from the trailer – which also gives us our first onscreen look at Julianne Moore’s Alma Coin, President of District 13 –  the action and drama has now graduated beyond just twisted games on TV into a full blown rebellion with all its explosive trimmings. (Okay, that’s the last mixed metaphors, I promise).

The worldwide phenomenon of “The Hunger Games” continues to set the world on fire with The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1, which finds Katniss Everdeen (Jennifer Lawrence) in District 13 after she literally shatters the games forever. Under the leadership of President Coin (Julianne Moore) and the advice of her trusted friends, Katniss spreads her wings as she fights to save Peeta (Josh Hutcherson) and a nation moved by her courage.

The Hunger Games: Mockingjay – Part 1 is once again directed by Francis Lawrence (I Am Legend, Constantine) and also stars – in the immortal words of Gary Oldman – EEEEEVVERYOOOOONEE! No, seriously. Look at this list: Josh Hutcherson, Liam Hemsworth, Woody Harrelson, Elizabeth Banks, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Jeffrey Wright, Stanley Tucci, Donald Sutherland, Natalie Dormer, Stef Dawson, Evan Ross, Lily Rabe, Patina Miller, Wes Chatham, Elden Henson and Robert Knepper. It is scheduled for release on November 1, 2014.
