My wife and I have a little Jack Russell cross breed dog named Tricksy that is just the sweetest thing. Also the loudest, but we love her anyway. She spends most week days at home by herself while we’re at work, and I often wonder what she gets up during these times. There’s never any evidence of any crazy antics on her part, but if this first trailer for the Secret Life of Pets is anything to go by, then maybe I shouldn’t be checking for holes in the garden, but rather for what’s been recently played on my music collection.

The CG animated movie is from Illumination Studios, the same guys behind the Despicable Me franchise, and looks to try and turn poodles, cats, goldfish, budgies and more into the same easily entertaining stars like their famous Minions and have brought along a huge voice cast of really funny people to do it.

Stars aside though, I’m guessing that that your mileage for this may vary depending on whether you’re a pet owner or not, but it looks like some inoffensive family comedy fun to me.

Check out the trailer below and make sure to stay till the end.

For one bustling Manhattan apartment building, the real day starts after the folks on two legs leave for work and school. That’s when the pets of every stripe, fur and feather begin their own nine-to-five routine: hanging out with each other, trading humiliating stories about their owners, or auditioning adorable looks to get better snacks. The building’s top dog, Max (voiced by Louis C.K.), a quick-witted terrier rescue who’s convinced he sits at the center of his owner’s universe, finds his pampered life rocked when she brings home Duke (Eric Stonestreet), a sloppy, massive mess of a mongrel with zero interpersonal skills. When this reluctant canine duo finds themselves out on the mean streets of New York, they have to set aside their differences and unite against a fluffy-yet-cunning bunny named Snowball (Kevin Hart), who’s building an army of Ex-Pets abandoned by their owners and out to turn the tables on humanity… all before dinnertime.

SYSTEM OF A DOWN!!!

The Secret Life of Pets stars Louis C.K., Eric Stonestreet, Kevin Hart, Ellie Kemper, Lake Bell, Jenny Slate, Bobby Moynihan, Hannibal Buress and Albert Brooks. It is scheduled for release on July 8, 2016.
