This-is-Where-I-Leave-You

When you have massive success with a movie where Wolverine teaches a giant robot to box, you better find some way to up the ante on your next few cinematic endeavours. Real Steel director Shawn Levy totally didn’t do that with his Google-based Owen Wilson/Vince Vaughn comedy, The Internship, but he may just make up for it with his latest, This Is Where I Leave You.

No, the R-rated dramedy doesn’t boast any time travelling mutants whose fists double as sosaties, but it does have one hell of a cast consisting of *deep breath now* Jason Bateman, Tina Fey, Adam Driver, Rose Byrne, Corey Stoll, Kathryn Hahn, Dax Shepard, Jane Fonda, Timothy Olyphant and Connie Britton among others.

And although you may have seen this type of story before (adapted by Banshee creator Jonathan Tropper from his own novel), about a family being forced to come together after the death of a patriarch, it does also seems to boast that heartfelt mix of humour and tragedy (and Tina Fey punching people in the face) that I have to admit I’m a sucker for.

When their father passes away, four grown siblings, bruised and banged up by their respective adult lives, are forced to return to their childhood home and live under the same roof together for a week, along with their over-sharing mother and an assortment of spouses, exes and might-have-beens. Confronting their history and the frayed states of their relationships among the people who know and love them best, they ultimately reconnect in hysterical and emotionally affecting ways amid the chaos, humor, heartache and redemption that only families can provide—driving us insane even as they remind us of our truest, and often best, selves.

This Is Where I Leave You is scheduled for release on September 12, 2014.
