Revenant 2

The whole running gag of Leonardo DiCaprio never winning an Oscar is well publicized, but Leo may just be getting the last laugh after all. This change of fortune may just be thanks to The Revenant, the latest movie from Alejandro G. Iñárritu, the Oscar-winning filmmaker behind last year’s Birdman. I mean he got Michael Keaton to an Oscar nomination in 2014, and who the hell would ever have predicted that?!

Despite it’s sweep on the awards scene, Birdman still had its detractors (our very own James is often pointing out how it’s basically just an overrated smoke and mirrors show) but you would be hard pressed to find a film fan that isn’t impressed by what we’ve seen of The Revenant. Besides the gobsmacking cinematography from two-time Oscar winner Emmanuel Lubezki, or the absolutely insane true story it is based on (or the just as insane film shoot), you also have a fully committed DiCaprio facing off against an incredibly game Tom Hardy in a brutal cross-country revenge drama that has everything from horseback shootouts to  ultra violent bear maulings (holy hell, how intense does that look?!). What’s not to get excited about?!

Especially after watching this pulse-pounding new trailer!

Inspired by true events, “The Revenant” is an immersive and visceral cinematic experience capturing one man’s epic adventure of survival and the extraordinary power of the human spirit. In an expedition of the uncharted American wilderness, legendary explorer Hugh Glass (Leonardo DiCaprio) is brutally attacked by a bear and left for dead by members of his own hunting team. In a quest to survive, Glass endures unimaginable grief as well as the betrayal of his confidant John Fitzgerald (Tom Hardy). Guided by sheer will and the love of his family, Glass must navigate a vicious winter in a relentless pursuit to live and find redemption.

The Revenant also start Domhnall Gleeson and Will Poulter. It’s scheduled for release internationally on Christmas Day, while locally we’re going to have to wait until January 22, 2016.
