Calling yourself a martial arts action movie fan, when you haven’t yet seen The Raid: Redemption, is a bit like saying you’re a rock fan but kinda sorta think that Jimi Hendrix is maybe a relative of local langarm legend Bobby Hendricks. Gareth Evan’s 2011 Indonesian tour de brute force was not only one of the most viscerally thrilling films to come out in that year, but it instantly shot into the upper rungs of many a fan’s Greatest Action Movies of All Time list, and justifiably so.

It was brutally choreographed, relentlessly paced and masterfully executed. And it was only the beginning. After months of Twitter updates and sneak peek pics, the first teaser trailer for it’s sequel, The Raid 2: Berandal is finally here and it’s simply badass.

The Raid 2 picks up right where the first film left off and follows Rama (Iko Uwais) as he goes undercover and infiltrates the ranks of a ruthless Jakarta crime syndicate in order to protect his family and uncover the corruption in his own police force.

Well, sheeeeeeeit. That looks insane. And violent. And kind of exactly as intense as the first film was, if not more so, and I think I need some new underwear.

Judging from what we see here, it seems that Rama’s investigations into the corrupt police force doesn’t end too well for him, depositing him in a local  prison. But I’m willing to bet dollars to donuts that Rama has the keys to get out of his jail cell. Those keys just happen to also be his blood soaked hands and feet.

Also, if you pay close attention – something made a tad bit difficult in the face of so much undiluted badassery – you’ll also see a brief snippet of one particular scene that Evans has been speaking about for a while now already: a crazy 3-way fist fight, inside of a moving car, in the middle of a high speed highway car chase. Yes, you read that sentence correctly

This just flying kicked it’s way to the front of the line for my most anticipated movies of 2014.
