This is what the Amazing Spider-Man's costume almost looked like

When the first few images for the Amazing Spider-Man costume began leaking out, it caused a lot of controversy. And by “controversy” I actually just mean a bunch of die-hard comic book geeks mumbling about how shiny his shoes looked, or what was up with the streaks on his arm. I should know, I was one of them.

But if just a slight reworking of Spider-Man’s classic look caused that much ruckus, I shudder to think how these designs would have been accepted.

The concept designs come courtesy of i09 who rounded up a bunch of art from film concept artist Eddie Yang. Yang has worked on a number of big budget projects, including Battleship and Iron Man, and nestled among all these pieces of art are some CG renders that he produced while plying his trade in the Amazing Spider-Man costume department.

And they are certainly striking to say the least.

I can’t say that I’m won over completely by any of them though, as they all have their flaws. The first costume’s colouring and design is great, but I’m not a fan of the off center spider logo. The second costume keeps the design more simplified, but muddies up the spider logo, making it look more tick than spider. The third costume gets the logo right, but I’m not a fan of the muted colours.

So what do you guys think? Would you have liked to see Andrew Garfield in these duds?
