Jacob's Ladder

WAR! What is it good for? Some pretty mind-wrecking post traumatic stress disorder! Huh! That’s a concept which was explored way back in 1990, as Tim Robbins portrayed a Vietnam War veteran who just couldn’t get to grips with reality, as he hallucinated his way through life.

Looks like those hallucinations were more potent than he thought, as infantryman Jacob Singer will once again be called back into action.

THR has confirmed that Jacob’s Ladder will be remade by LD Entertainment, in a project that will be more of  “something more akin to an homage”, with a script on the way from Jake “When a stranger calls remake” Wall. Michael “Fright Night” Gaeta and Alison Rosenzweig are producing, but the film has yet to find a director.

According to the report,  the producers want to “contemporize the story with new situations and characters but still maintain a story that examines issues and poses existential questions.” So in other words, something about a an Iraq war soldier, freedom, government lack of empathy towards veterans yadda yadda yadda.

I’m not saying that now is a bad time to have this remake, but it needs to be handled by a director and team who really understands the source material. It’s still a ways away, but I’ve got my eye on this remake.
