Let it never be said that I’m not a man of my word. As promised yesterday by that flashy poster, two teaser trailers and whole heap of character descriptions, a  second full trailer for Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy has ooga-chakka’d its way onto the internets for your enjoyment. And damn, is there some stuff to enjoy.

We get our first real “I am Groot”, a brief glimpse at Ronan (more on that later), more technicolour space battles than you can shake a raccoon at, crazy impressive visuals, and Glenn Close sporting a gravity defying hairdo. Yep, this is definitely Guardians of the Galaxy.

An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.

So that’s why there are so many oddball song choices; silly Star Lord only has that one “Awesome Mix” tape. And did I call it on the disembodied space-god head or what?!

Seriously though, I’m loving what I’m seeing thus far. Were it not for the Wachowski’s just as crazy looking Jupiter Ascending coming out later in the year, I would swear that Guardians looks like nothing else out there at the moment. It’s crazy vibrant, has a tongue burrowed right through the cheek tone, and goes for that insane, full blown sci-fi fantasy epic scope that gets me a-tingling in all my R-rated places. Damn right, I’m excited.

And that’s not even mentioning finally seeing Lee Pace as Ronan the Accuser. He’s on screen very, very briefly, but the folks over at fansite Guarding the Galaxy have managed to get hold of this first (but unfortunately small) still image of the hammer swinging Kree baddie who is described as a “radical” with “a genocidal goal”.  And apparently radical genocide looks real good.

Just like most of the Marvel Cinematic Universe’s characters, the costume looks close enough to its original comic book counterpart to satisfy the die hard fans (they really, really nailed the look of the hood and his Universal Weapon), but still taking some liberties to make it just pop off the screen. This is certainly a damn sight more eye catching than getting some pointed ears and wrapping a bunch of pointy sticks around the back of your head, I can tell you that much!

Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan, Gregg Henry, Bradley Cooper, Michael Rooker and Vin Diesel, and is set for release on August 1, 2014.

I watched the trailer twice last night, and again this morning. I’m more excited for this than I was for Avengers!

Like I said last night on Twitter, with this, Interstellar and Jupiter Ascending in the same year, it’s heaven for anyone who loves them some space adventure. Bring it I say

You know what I like? The fact that you DO see the base inside the head of a celestial, or whatever.
