It’s time to get serious about Guardians of the Galaxy. I know it’s seri0us-o’clock because the marketing machine for Marvel’s upcoming space romp has just gone into overdrive. Last week saw the release of four new character posters, along with a bunch of TV spots. Now a new full length international trailer has also dropped, and this one is, well, serious.
Gone is all the oogah chaka goofiness and wacky one-liners, as this new trailer – which is stuffed full of previously unseen footage – keeps things more somber, hinting at the galactic stakes and all the drama that entails. Oh and of course there’s a talking raccoon in a yellow jumpsuit flying a space ship. Ain’t nothing they can do to serious that up.
An action-packed, epic space adventure, Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy expands the Marvel Cinematic Universe into the cosmos, where brash adventurer Peter Quill finds himself the object of an unrelenting bounty hunt after stealing a mysterious orb coveted by Ronan, a powerful villain with ambitions that threaten the entire universe. To evade the ever-persistent Ronan, Quill is forced into an uneasy truce with a quartet of disparate misfits—Rocket, a gun-toting raccoon, Groot, a tree-like humanoid, the deadly and enigmatic Gamora and the revenge-driven Drax the Destroyer. But when Quill discovers the true power of the orb and the menace it poses to the cosmos, he must do his best to rally his ragtag rivals for a last, desperate stand—with the galaxy’s fate in the balance.
And here are those character posters I mentioned earlier. I held them back for a week because I’m not a fan of the whole “one image a day” shtick.
Guardians of the Galaxy stars Chris Pratt, Zoe Saldana, Lee Pace, Djimon Hounsou, Benicio del Toro, John C. Reilly, Glenn Close, Karen Gillan, Gregg Henry, Michael Rooker, Vin Diesel and Bradley Cooper, and is scheduled for release on August 1, 2014.
