1271033 - THE WALK

We’ve seen a lot of trailers relating to video game movies and most of the times we talk about how they are likely not to live up to expectations, as computer game adaptations are generally awful. Well, here is a movie adaptation that I have absolutely no expectations for, whatsoever. Angry Birds may be a fun little game to play on your mobile devices, but it also has the thinnest of plots imaginable. Don’t get me wrong, I enjoyed the games, but for being a meaningless distraction and not something which actually holds your attention for any length of time. This new trailer does give us a little more of the plot we can expect from the movie and perhaps some of the childish humour you will be forced to endure.

So that they are turning it into a movie is not only a clear cash in, but also one in which no matter how awful it is, it will probably still have a better story line than the games. The first trailer released however wasn’t any good and this new trailer for the Angry Birds movie quite honestly doesn’t make me feel any better in thinking this could be something worth watching.

But hey, its Angry Birds and kids will probably flock to it regardless of how bad or worse it will end up being. Parents, be prepared to get dragged to the cinemas and fork out money for this and the inevitable merchandise that will get brought out for the movie. In fact, thinking about how much money it will probably earn makes me angry. Scrap that, this will be the movie of 2016. The one that makes its viewers feel just as angry as the birds in the movie. How is that for character immersion.

From the trailer, we learn that Red (Jason Sudeikis) has developed his simmering anger-management issues and cynicism from a lifetime of having been bullied by the other flightless birds on an isolated tropical island, which has only served to further isolate him among similarly rejected outcasts from their otherwise upbeat community. When an invading army of pigs arrive, Red appears to be the only one who suspects their “guests” might have sinister designs on the birds’ eggs and sets out on a quest to find the legendary Mighty Eagle (Peter Dinklage) to help thwart them. So kind of a colonial theme in the movie, which could work if it weren’t trying to be so cheesy.

The Angry Birds Movie also features the voice talents of Josh Gad, Danny McBride, Bill Hader, Maya Rudolph, Kate McKinnon, Tony Hale and Keegan-Michael Key. How this group of comedic talent signed onto this movie is beyond me. The film opens internationally on May 20, 2016 and is being made by Rovio Entertainment and Sony Pictures with Clay Kaytis (Tangled, Bolt) and Fergal Reilly directing.

Must say – looking at the last couple of gags and the mood of the movie I’m not so sure it’s really kiddy friendly and might be aimed more at the adult market.
