When I was first told by a friend that I should watch the first Magic Mike movie I thought he was kidding because I don’t take anything Trevor says as being anything other than the ramblings of a madman. Nonetheless I went ahead and watched it and – to my surprise – thoroughly enjoyed it.

I have always thought Tatum had a lot of potential depth to his acting skill set and after his performance in The Foxcatcher that was confirmed (if you haven’t seen it yet, do yourself a favour and remedy that). So I am actually really looking forward to the next Magic Mike movie (he is also one of the screenplay writers for this sequel, which makes sense as the character/story of the first film is based on his real-life experiences as a one-time male stripper).

The first film was funny as hell, even if it did follow a rather predictable storyline. I don’t expect anything less from the sequel but I am sure that many a partner is going to sit asking ‘what does he have that I don’t’ while also wishing they had kept that New Year’s resolution of klapping the gym. Have a watch of the first full trailer for Magic Mike XXL and say it isn’t so:

I don’t think I’m ever going to look at a Pepsi fridge in the same way again.

It’s great to see the old team meet up again with some new blood and with the stakes even higher I think we are in for a load of fun. Magic Mike XXL is directed by Gregory Jacobs and stars Tatum as the eponymous Magic Mike, Matt Bomer as Ken, Joe Manganiello as Big Dick Richie, and Adam Rodríguez as Tito. Expect to be titillated in July.
