Back in June, the first trailer for director Ridley Scott’s The Martian popped up, delivering a rather solid and condensed punch of info detailing that Matt Damon would need to science the sh** out of Mars in order to survive being stranded on that planet.

But that trailer was missing something. And that something, was Jimi Hendrix. Here’s the latest trailer, which carries familiar beats but with a more upbeat look at potentially starving to death on a barren planet that millions of kilometers away from home.

During a manned mission to Mars, Astronaut Mark Watney is presumed dead after a fierce storm and left behind by his crew. But Watney has survived and finds himself stranded and alone on the hostile planet. With only meager supplies, he must draw upon his ingenuity, wit and spirit to subsist and find a way to signal to Earth that he is alive.

Millions of miles away, NASA and a team of international scientists work tirelessly to bring “the Martian” home, while his crewmates concurrently plot a daring, if not impossible, rescue mission. As these stories of incredible bravery unfold, the world comes together to root for Watney’s safe return. Based on a best-selling novel.

I kind of dig that more upbeat tempo. Sure, it’s not all sunshine and giggles in the flick, but this trailer definitely builds a stronger core and plot when compared to the June preview. Hopefully this is where the marketing campaign ends, as the project is dangerously close to giving away too much information at this stage.

The Martian stars Matt Damon, Jessica Chastain, Kristen Wiig, Kate Mara, Michael Pena, Jeff Daniels, Chiwetel Ejiofor and Donald Glover. It’ll be hitting orbit on October 2.
