Constantine-12

My gripes are pretty well documented on this site when it comes to DC Comics and their approach to adapting their properties to TV where one hand doesn’t just seem to not know what the other hand is doing, but sometimes appears oblivious to the fact that there even is another hand. Or that its not a stinky foot, ready to get shoved in a mouth. And before this anatomical metaphor gets further out of hand *cringe*… Basically, their strategy, as a whole,  is a mess. But that doesn’t mean that there are not individual elements of said mess that are still quite appealing.

Case in point, Constantine, which may have wimped out and ditched the chain smoking and complex sexuality of it’s titular, magic dealing lead character, but still looks to retain that rich mythology that surrounds him. You can check out a bunch of that mythology and how closely it hews to its comic book source, plus some cool looking shots of the mage-y bastard himself played by Matt Ryan (Constantine), all in these four new TV spots.

Along with those TV spots, comes this new illustrated poster as well as 9 new supernatural filled images.

Constantine is set to debut on NBC on October 24, 2014 with a pilot episode directed by Neil Marshall (The Descent, Game of Thrones, Dog Soldiers) and co-written by David Goyer (The Dark Knight Trilogy, Man of Steel, Blade). Here’s the pilot episode’s synopsis:

Armed with a ferocious knowledge of the dark arts and his wickedly naughty wit, he fights the good fight — or at least he did. With his soul already damned to hell, he’s decided to leave his do-gooder life behind, but when demons target Liv (Lucy Griffiths, “True Blood”), the daughter of one of Constantine’s oldest friends, he’s reluctantly thrust back into the fray – and he’ll do whatever it takes to save her. Before long, it’s revealed that Liv’s “second sight” — an ability to see the worlds behind our world and predict supernatural occurrences — is a threat to a mysterious new evil that’s rising in the shadows. Now it’s not just Liv who needs protection; the angels are starting to get worried too. So, together, Constantine and Liv must use her power and his skills to travel the country, find the demons that threaten our world and send them back where they belong. After that, who knows… maybe there’s hope for him and his soul after all.
