This PENNY DREADFUL Season 3 teaser trailer will be your reckoning

I’m rather sad to say I haven’t watched Penny Dreadful season 2 yet, particularly given how much I absolutely loved the first season of premium cable network Showtime’s Gothic horror drama. It was one of the best new shows to hit the small screen in 2014 with excellent production values, a compelling story and some amazing performances – anyone whose seen that seance scene knows what I’m talking about – and, by all accounts, that extended to season 2 as well. And now the next season is nearly upon us with this newly-released teaser trailer for season 3:

That hits all the right notes with me, particularly with the haunting background music. What draws me to the series is that while the characters fight evil, their greatest struggles are with the monsters inside themselves – and this season seems no different. And while the series’ main focus is on Eva Green’s Vanessa Ives and her… challenges, it looks like we’ll delve deeper into the backstory of Ethan Chandler (Josh Harnett).

Penny Dreadful season 3 will air on Showtime on 1 May and series regulars Timothy Dalton (Sir Malcolm Murray), Eva Green (Vanessa Ives), Josh Hartnett (Ethan Chandler), Rory Kinnear (John Clare), Harry Treadaway (Dr. Victor Frankenstein), Billie Piper (Lily), Danny Sapani (Sembene) and Reeve Carney (Dorian Grey) are all returning. Also joining, and rejoining, the show in season 3 in various capacities will be Patti LuPone, Helen McCrory, Wes Studi, Sarah Greene, Simon Russell Beale, Shazad Latif (Dr. Henry Jekyll!) and many others.
