Deadpool paly arts kai (11)

There’s a bunch of companies out there making truly terrific toys, but for some reason I always come back to Square Enix and their Play Arts Kai range. Are they the most realistic figures around? Nope, not in the slightest. Are they the most faithful company around when it comes to adaptations? Not exactly, although this is more a pro than a con.

What Play Arts Kai figures are however, are stylish. Stylised in fact, as their renditions of popular video game characters usually veer off in unexpected directions. Take their Deadpool figure for example. Now I’ll happily admit that Ryan Reynold’s version of the character has managed to squeeze his butt into the definitive version of the Regeneratin’ Degenerate costume.

It’s red, detailed and not too over the top. It’s also prone to several wardrobe malfunctions, especially when bullets enter the mix. Right up main street. But this idea from Square Enix? Man, I’d love to see Deadpool rock up to battle with a sturdier look to his outfit. Check it out:

With great power comes great irresponsibility. Deadpool, based on Marvel Comics’ most unconventional anti-hero, descends upon us as a Play Arts KAI action figure!

Square Enix has included three interchangeable heads featuring different facial expressions and a variety of interchangeable hands so that the collector can enjoy Deadpool’s comical and expressive character. With a wide range of motion, it is easy to recreate Deadpool’s dynamic nature. This figure’s possible poses range from mischievous gestures to powerful action stances.

A deep red gradation on top of a more vivid metallic color paintwork keeps this figure in line with the image of Deadpool portrayed in the film. With added weathering effects on the armor, the Deadpool collectible figure evokes the sharp contrast between his silly attitude and serious badassery.

Enjoy the true nature of Deadpool, in all his twisted and deranged glory.

That is just utterly handsome stuff.  Sideshow says that this figure will be out next year April, for the cool price of $149.99. I bet it’ll also feel huge in your hands.
