I’m generally not a fan of mixing my horror with another genre (I’m genre-ist like that), but I have to admit that the idea of a comedy-horror-musical like writer/director Jerome Sable’s Stage Fright really intrigues me. Maybe it’s the juxtaposition of the terror with the usually overly happy singing and dancing, or the fact that the horror shrieks will now be in key, or maybe it’s just the chance to see Meat Loaf (the singer) violently murdered. Whatever it is, it looks Stage Fright has it. Also, blood. It has lots of blood.
Starring Allie MacDonald, Douglas Smith, Brandon Uranowitz, Minnie Driver and Meat Loaf, Stage Fright follows starry-eyed teenager Camilla Swanson, who wants to follow in her mother’s footsteps and become a Broadway diva. Unfortunately, she’s stuck working in the kitchen of a snobby performing arts camp. Determined to change her destiny, she sneaks in to audition for the summer showcase and lands a lead role in the play, but just as rehearsals begin, blood starts to spill, and Camilla soon finds herself terrified by the horror of musical theatre.
That looks like it could be genuinely fun, which is really a weird thing to say about a movie where half of a boy’s foot gets ripped off, I know.
Stage Fright will be breaking a leg (and much, much worse stuff) when it hits iTunes/On Demand April 3 and cinemas on May 9, 2014.

No thanks, Camp Rock was scary enough without mention of bukake and a serial killer.
