The other day when we mentioned the names of directors on the shortlist to direct the new Spider-Man movie, two of the names belonged to the writers-also-turned-first-time-directors duo of John Francis Daley and Jonathan Goldstein (Horrible Bosses, The Incredible Burt Wonderstone). Whether or not they’re right for a Spider-Man is still totally debateable, but when it comes to a reboot/sequel to a raucous comedy from 30 years ago, they may just be on to a good thing.

Daley and Goldstein are making their helming debut with Vacation, the modern-day follow to the 1983 classic comedy National Lampoon’s Vacation, which saw Chevy Chase as the bumbling Clark Griswold as he drags his family off on a calamitous road trip to the Wally World amusement park. Now Ed Helms is playing grown-up son Rusty Griswold who wants to take his family on the same trip, only things are very different now. For one, jokes are a whole lot more meta now. Also, there’s about a 500% increase in Thor penis. Did I mention that this was a Red-Band trailer and things get pretty potty pretty quickly?

Either way, it looks like Daley and Goldstein are pulling a meta-page out of the Phil Miller & Chris Lord Guide To Rebooting a Franchise (never a bad thing) and keeping things just as bawdy as the original movies, which could make for a dim-witted but racy and entertaining romp if done right, or destined for the toilet if overdone. After this first trailer, despite some real cringe-worthy, facepalm moments, I’m optimistically leaning towards the former, especially since there has apparently been some really good buzz in Hollywood about this.

Check it out below and let us know what you think.

Following in his father’s footsteps and hoping for some much-needed family bonding, a grown-up Rusty Griswold (Ed Helms) surprises his wife, Debbie (Christina Applegate), and their two sons with a cross-country trip back to America’s “favorite family fun park,” Walley World.

Vacation also stars Christina Applegate, Beverly D’Angelo, Michael Pena, Chris Hemsworth, Charlie Day, Skyler Gisondo, Steele Stebbins, Regina Hall and Keegan-Michael Key. It is scheduled for release on July 29, 2015.

All I can wonder know is if Christina Applegate will have a shower scene…
