Sometimes movies are made and no one knows why. I suppose there is always a market, in this case the market being ‘generic action with love interest and a man looking to be the best’, and by the looks of Blunt Force Trauma it fits the category better than a 9mm in a Clint Eastwood ‘peacemaker’.

What’s it about? Well guns, shooting people in Kevlar vests and being the quickest on the draw. Here’s the official synopsis:

Follows the journey of John and Colt, gunfighters and sometimes lovers, on parallel but very different journeys through an underground dueling culture.

Directed by Ken Sanzel, who has produced a few episodes of Numb3rs, it looks like a whole lot of stupid fun. No, really, I think it actually does! It’s the kind of silly movie that will probably garner a small cult following. It’ll probably also attract quite a few taxidermists who are interested to find out how Mikey Rourke is able to still walk around as he appears well past any live-by-dates. I mean it, the guy has a face that would make most horses start in shock, have a watch of this trailer and tell me he doesn’t look like some zombiefied Indian…

Acting alongside Zombie Rourke is Ryan Kwanten of True Blood fame and Freida Pinto from Slumdog Millionaire. I enjoy silly movies like this, they offer a nice break from Marvel, which seems to be 50% of the movies/series made these days, and other, far more serious efforts like 12 Years a Slave. Nothing wrong with a popcorn flick where you can talk though the movie (like my brother) and not miss any major plot details. Because let’s be honest, this movie is about shooting people and looking cool when you do it and not about existential dilemmas.

Expect lots of bullets to fly 24 September.
