There are certain actors who have the uncanny ability – through sheer natural charm and physical likability – of elevating whatever horrible material they find themselves saddled with. Luckily for upcoming R-rated comedy Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates all four its leads fit that bill, because this would look pretty terrible without the likes of Zac Efron, Adam Devine, Aubrey Plaza and Anna Kendrick pulling off some of these gags.
I mean, yes, as this first trailer clearly demonstrates, some of these jokes may still be too far gone even for these actors’ prodigious comedic resuscitative powers to rescue, but at least you’ll be getting some laughs out of this. And if not, I guess Efron is still ripped like an action figure and Plaza looks great in a two-piece bikini?
The movie was directed by Jake Szymanski, the man behind the utterly hilarious 7 Days in Hell, so I’m hoping that this is just a case of a badly cut green band trailer obscuring the movie’s best jokes, because I really like all these people and don’t want to see them suffer like this.

Hard-partying brothers Mike (Adam Devine) and Dave (Zac Efron) place an online ad to find the perfect dates (Anna Kendrick, Aubrey Plaza) for their sister’s Hawaiian wedding. Hoping for a wild getaway, the boys instead find themselves outsmarted and out-partied by the uncontrollable duo.
Mike and Dave Need Wedding Dates is scheduled for release in the US on July 8, 2016.
