Coherence

Like some kind of mental nymphomaniac, I can’t get enough of having my mind screwed with. The last film to truly give me a good noggin rogerin’ was Brit Marling and Zal Batmanglij’s Sound of My Voice, and now another lo-fi sci-fi flick has popped up that may just do the same.

Writer/director James Ward Byrkit’s Coherence has been picking up tons of praise on the festival circuit, with most saying that the less you know going into it, the better, as the film royally plays with your perceptions of just what the hell is going on. So, you know, you may not even want to watch this trailer. But you totally should, because otherwise I just wrote all of this for nothing.

On the night of an astrological anomaly, eight friends at a dinner party experience a troubling chain of reality bending events. Part cerebral sci-fi and part relationship drama, COHERENCE is a tightly focused, intimately shot film that quickly ratchets up with tension and mystery.

Coherence stars Hugo Armstrong, Nicholas Brendon, Emily Foxler, Elizabeth Gracen, Lauren Maher, Alex Manugian, Lorene Scafaria and Maury Sterling, and gets a limited release on June 20, 2014.

Sound of my voice is bloody good, though I found the ending a bit too clever-clever, look how clever I am, I’m so clever, I’m the cleverest in the classroom

It’s a tad contrived, but in a good way, I felt. Had me racking my brain for like 2 weeks afterwards just trying to get to grips with everything

An astrological anomaly? Did the constellations shift position & suddenly I became a Pisces with a bad future predicted for me?

Actually no, just an anomalous astrological coincidence.

It’s so cute that you call it a “birthday” when we all know it was an uncorking of the test tube. *RUN*

Oh, I noticed. It’s just Nicholas Brendon is about as famous as my breakfast right now, so wasn’t sure if it was worth mentioning.
