I first read Stephen Hawking’s “A Brief History of Time” many, many years ago (probably learning more science in the process than I did in my entire schooling career). It had not been the first time I had heard of the man, one of the greatest scientific minds that has ever lived, but it was only after reading the book that I discovered that this incredible brain was housed in a wreck of a body.

Diagnosed with motor neuron disease 1963, at barely 21 years of age – and given just two years to live – Hawking has been defying the odds and expanding our understanding of the world around us like few others have done, ever since. And just like the old Beatles song declared, all he needed was love. It’s the tale of this inspirational defiance and romance that is being told in The Theory of Everything, which has just debuted its first trailer.

Starring Eddie Redmayne (“Les Misérables”) and Felicity Jones (“The Amazing Spider-Man 2”), this is the extraordinary story of one of the world’s greatest living minds, the renowned astrophysicist Stephen Hawking, who falls deeply in love with fellow Cambridge student Jane Wilde. Once a healthy, active young man, Hawking received an earth-shattering diagnosis at 21 years of age. With Jane fighting tirelessly by his side, Stephen embarks on his most ambitious scientific work, studying the very thing he now has precious little of – time. Together, they defy impossible odds, breaking new ground in medicine and science, and achieving more than they could ever have dreamed.

Theory of Everything is directed by Oscar winning documentarian James Marsh (Man On a Wire) and also stars Emily Watson and David Thewlis. It is scheduled for release on November 7, 2014.
