They say that no matter how ugly or bad a child is, that a mother will always love them. Which is true if evidence of Nick’s relationship with his mother is anything to go by. However, if your beloved child ends up being a bit of a psychopathic person who may or may not have knack for killing people, it is certainly bound to test the love of even the most bonded of mother-son relationships.

Orion Pictures new horror movie The Prodigy sees Orange is the New Black star Taylor Shilling’s love for her young son (IT’s Jackson Robert Scott) stretched to the limit when she realises that the remarkable genius and mental development displayed by her son may also be leading him down a darker path. At least that’s what is hinted at by the trailer as the movies official synopsis calls this a movie where “the line between perception and reality remains blurry”, meaning that there is likely la lot more than meets the eye:

I’ve always felt that a person is far too smart, there is a chance that they can’t be trusted. So be wary of that the next time you think you’re a real genius.

The Prodigy a movie that certainly has the potential for a decent horror story, though most certainly comes across as generic and predictable in this trailer. The movie is written by Jeff Buhler and direct by Nicholas McCarthy. The Prodigy is headed to cinemas on February 8h, though you may want to hold out on this one for when to comes out on DVD or Netflix before giving it a go. Hopefully it holds some surprises in store for us though and I’m wrong.

Meh, looks okay. We Need To Talk About Kevin is probably the scariest “evil child” movie I’ve ever seen.
