We’ve just experienced the conclusion of the Oscars for this year and seen all the years most critically recognized films get awarded and now its time for an awards ceremony that’s a little bit more fun – with the MTV Movie Awards whose nominations were announced yesterday evening. The MTV Awards typically focus on popularity rather than technical merit, but are also known for a host of crazy awards such as Best Kiss and Best Action Scene, which make it perhaps less credible, but nonetheless still a lot of fun.

In other words, if you want to know which movies and scenes were the most fun of the year, chances are this is the award show to look out for. So, just which films have been deemed worthy by the MTV Generation, well here is the full list below:

I’ve long since realised I am no longer part of the MTV Generation, as I don’t get many of these awards, but at least we’re seeing a lot of good critical films still getting recognized (Mad Max, Ex Machina and the The Revenant) and its nice that we get to see popular films like The Avengers and Deadpool get recognized for their ability to bring cinema goers into the theatres and for being entertaining – which is what movies are supposed to be. Not to mention it is a heck of a lot more diverse than the Oscars (too soon?).

One award which perhaps highlights the typical bias that the Oscars have towards historical films is the true story category, which is for the best films based on true stories and actually looks a lot more of what you would expect at the Oscars, whereas the best movie nominations are filled with big, yet original, blockbusters. It goes to show you that as much as we complain about the lack of creativity and endless sequels in Hollywood, its still where the imagination gets explored the most.

Personally, I think its going to be between Star Wars and Deadpool to have the most golden popcorn statuettes awarded, which I think would be a fair reflection of fan sentiment for the  films released so far. The awards show will be hosted by Dwayne Johnson and Kevin Hart and will be broadcast on  Sunday, April 10 for all those interested. As always, we will have the winners list ready for you after the show.

What do you make of the MTV Movie Award nominations for this year? Is it just a stupid award show or perhaps a better list than the Oscars?
