Super hero movies may be all the rage right now, but Disney may be onto something else right now. And that something else is essentially modernising their classic animated films by giving those properties a live-action remake. Maleficent got the ball rolling, Cinderella ran away from that ball with a ton of cash and now it looks like Disney’s mega-popular fairy Tinkerbell is going to be getting in on this action next.
That’s according to Collider, who say that the latest take on Tinkerbell is said to “play with the idea and timeline of the well-known Peter Pan narrative,” and will take the angle of telling “the story you don’t know”. So just like Malificent then.
Tinkerbell will also be tackled with a more modest budget in mind apparently, something that isn’t as exorbitant as Maleficent’s $180 million setup and more along the lines of Cinderella’s production budget of $95 million. THR reported that Reese Witherspoon is on board to produce and star in the film, setting Victoria “Finding Dory” Strouse to ready a script.
It’s not the first time that Disney has sort to make a live-action Tinkerbell film. Back in 2010, Elizabeth Banks was going to star in Tink, before that production crumbled. It’s now back on track however, and it’ll be joining other Disney live-action remakes such as The Jungle Book, Beauty and the Beast, Dumbo,Mulan, Winnie the Pooh and Pinnocchio
