You think of Todd Phillips, you immediately think “comedy”. Usually involving childish men, lots of amnesia inducing pharmaceuticals and small androgynous Asian men in the boot of your car (Darryn calls that a Tuesday).
And while the director is currently busy rounding up the Wolf Pack for The Hangover 3, it looks like he wants to get out of the funny business for his next project, the paranoid thriller Trust Your Eyes.
According to the report from Variety, the film will be an adaptation of Linwood Barclay’s recently released novel, the synopsis of which you can find below:
A schizophrenic man spends his days and nights on a website called Whirl360, believing he’s employed by the CIA to store the details of every town and city in the world in his head. Then one day, he sees something that shouldn’t be there: a woman being murdered behind a window on a New York street. Suddenly Thomas has more to deal with than just his delusions, as he gets drawn into a deadly conspiracy.
I haven’t read the novel, so this is a pretty uninformed opinion, but that just sounds like somebody threw Hitchcock’s Rear Window, Google Earth and a splash of Conspiracy into a blender. Irrespective of the originality of the story though, it does appear to be major departure from anything he’s done thus far, so the verdict is still out on how he’s going to handle the suspense.
