Tom Cruise is not a hero in this new trailer for JACK REACHER

If you’re like me, then you’ve yet to get excited about Tom Cruise’s Jack Reacher. Putting aside the fact that a midget who can barely beat up a couch has been cast as a literary character described as a beast of a man, the initial trailer did more to try and cash in on some Gosling/Drive mojo than actually tell me what the film was about.

But now we have a new trailer, that not only gives us a proper introduction to the support characters, story and the badassery of Reacher himself, but also proves that it doesn’t matter if you’re a criminal or not, as long you have a cool exit from a car, even the public will love you.

Six shots. Five dead. One heartland city thrown into a state of terror. But within hours the cops have it solved: a slam-dunk case. Except for one thing. The accused man says: You got the wrong guy. Then he says: Get Reacher for me.

And sure enough, ex–military investigator Jack Reacher is coming. He knows this shooter—a trained military sniper who never should have missed a shot. Reacher is certain something is not right—and soon the slam-dunk case explodes.

Now Reacher is teamed with a beautiful young defense lawyer, moving closer to the unseen enemy who is pulling the strings. Reacher knows that no two opponents are created equal. This one has come to the heartland from his own kind of hell. And Reacher knows that the only way to take him down is to match his ruthlessness and cunning—and then beat him shot for shot.

Firstly, if that last 20 seconds of this trailer doesn’t bring a smile to your face, then you may just hate movies. And life. Secondly, I’ve noticed that they appear to be dropping all references to the Lee Childs novels from which this film (and I’m guessing subsequent sequels, since Childs wrote about 20 Reacher books) draws its inspiration from. This is probably due to Childs purists’ negative reaction to the casting of Cruise in the role.

Whatever the reason though, this is starting to look pretty good. Also, I had no idea that Jai Courtney (soon to be seen on screen as Bruce Willis’ progeny in A Good Day To Die Hard) would be wearing the black hat in this one as well. That guy is really getting busy all of a sudden, and this will probably be his first real on-screen test for many.

Looks awesome – I’m amped. Tom Cruise really doesn’t look like Reacher should at all, but hey – should be a sweet movie despite that.
