Bleed for This

I’m not a huge fan of boxing as a sport, but when it comes to movies it’s a different story entirely. From classics like Raging Bull and Rocky to newer films like Ali or last-year’s Creed – the movie world is filled with excellent boxing films. I would argue that boxing is probably the best represented sport in Hollywood and the two seem to have a love affair with each other, as each year there is a new boxing film looking to inspire us once again. The sport is filled with rag to riches stories and big personalities – which obviously translates well to a winning script.

And the next inspiring story from the boxing world coming our way is that of former junior middleweight champion Vinny Pazienza, who was apparently nicknamed the Pazmanian Devil, which should give a good description of the type of fighter he was. Paz was left with a broken neck following a serious car accident and the possibility that he might never walk again, to not only walk – but return to the ring and become a champion.

The film is titled Bleed For This and will star Miles Teller as the boxing great. The film will also star Aaron Eckhart as his coach on the side, because all great boxing stories are not just about the man in the ring, but one just outside of it too. The new trailer for this film certainly shows how the film really tells that story and shows Teller’s potential as an actor are really going to shine through in this movie.

The film is directed by Ben Younger (Boiler Room) and executive produced by Martin Scorsese, who directed the aforementioned classic Raging Bull. Bleed For This steps into the ring on November 4 in the US for limited release before going into wider release on November 23. No word yet on when it will be arriving in our shores.
