Action, jilted lovers and one of the final Paul Walker movies ever made dominated the North American box office over the weekend. Despite boasting some solid casting and kinetic setpieces however, Brick Mansions couldn’t match revenge-com The Other Woman, which walked off with a high-heeled first place. But then again, that first place victory was nabbed from the sales rack.
Opening up to an underwhelming weekend, The Other Woman took top spot with a $24.7 million take, an improvement over Cameron Diaz’s previous flick What Happens in Vegas ($20.2 million). It’s also more than double that of the The Five-Year Engagement ($10.6 million) and The Big Wedding ($7.6 million). Brick Mansions came in at fifth place, as the movie starring the late Paul Walker failed to capitilise on some solid action buzz, with most audiences still flocking to see the Captain America sequel. It’s another flop film for Luc Besson’s EuropCorp, following recent stinkers Three days to kill and The Family.
The last new release was The Quiet Ones which failed dismally with a $4 million opening. It’s one of the worst performing films of the year, factoring in the fact that it opened across 2000 locations. Here’s how everyone else did:

Top ten departures this week include Draft Day, Oculus and Noah. Controversial and polarising, Noah managed to rake in over $319.9 million worldwide after thirty days and thirty nights. As for Oculus, that low budget horror managed to scare up just over $26.2 million internationally. Not bad for a movie made with $5 million, as that’s a profit margin of almost 500%.
