Who’s afraid of the big bad bat? Apparently not Marvel, as the last couple of months resulted in a game of cinematic chicken with Ant-Man and Captain America: Civil War. Originally scheduled for July 2015 this year, Batman V Superman: Damn Gerbils was then scheduled to May 6 2016, a release date that would have seen it go head to head with the third Captain America movie.

Warner Bros then balked at that idea, and once again re-scheduled, this time to March 25 of 2016. And that’s a much better date, one that will provide a decent gap between Marvel and DC franchises, allowing everybody to win.

It’s also only the second movie in DC’s cinematic universe, right after 2013’s Man of Steel. Speaking with The Hollywood Reporter, Warner Bros. CEO Kevin Tsujihara eexplained the reasoning behind the release electric boogaloo shuffle, while also confirming that he has seen Batman V Superman several times already. Bastard:

It was a tough decision at the time because it was going to create a hole in 2015. But it was absolutely the right decision for the franchise, for DC and the movie. Having seen the movie multiple times, and again last night, I’m extremely confident it was the right decision to make the movie better.

And it’s so important for the studio to get the foundation right on DC.

Fair enough. Warner Bros is throwing fat stacks of money in order to have their own franchise which can reward with them with even fatter piles of money. Batman V Superman is just the first shot being fired in a very risky salvo of gambits, that also includes David Ayer’s Suicide Squad in August 2016, a Wonder Woman solo movie, a possible solo Batman movie, a Man of Steel sequel that may have George Miller attached to direct and the first of several Justice League movies which begins production next year.

That’s a lot of faith on the part of Warner Bros. Plus, there’ll be less lengthy three-year waits. That’s kind of neat.
