Maggie

If there’s one movie that video game fans are looking forward to, it’s the post-apocalyptic adaptation of The Last Of Us. There’s two problems with that idea however. One: It’s going to take a couple of years to get made if it ever makes it out of development hell. Two: It’s already been made. Sort of. And surprise problem the third: It won’t star Arnold Schwarzenegger. Fortunately, the upcoming Maggie will.

There’s a deadly zombie epidemic threatening humanity, but Wade (Arnold Schwarzenegger), a small-town farmer and family man, refuses to accept defeat even when his daughter Maggie (Abigail Breslin) becomes infected. As Maggie’s condition worsens and the authorities seek to eradicate those with the virus, Wade is pushed to the limits in an effort to protect her. Joely Richardson co-stars in this post-apocalyptic thriller.

The last time I saw Arnold Schwarzenegger getting dramatic, it involved the apocalypse, Gabriel Byrne and a drunken rant about how Satan looked like a choir boy in comparison to the badassity of Arnie. And yet, I like the idea of Arnie being given a heavier role for once in his life. I’m used to imagining the Governator cleaving his way through the infected, but this flick just feel so…different. And while I’m not expecting too much from the aging Terminator, Abigail Breslin looks like she’ll steal all the scenes that she happens to be in at least.

Maggie will be getting a Tribecca Film Festival debut next month, before hitting a limited release on May 8. Henry Hobson directs.

I am curious to see how this will turn out. And not one shot fired in that trailer by Arnie? What magic is this?
