Roy Batty had it right: “I’ve seen things you people wouldn’t believe!”. The things in this case is nothing quite so cosmic as attack ships on fire off the shoulder of Orion or C-beams glittering in the dark near the Tannhäuser Gate, but I’ll be damned if it’s no less awesome than the first trailer for Blade Runner 2049. That’s right! Our first proper look at Denis Villeneuve’s hotly anticipated follow-up to Ridley Scott’s 1982 seminal classic has just been released!

Now after that intro, I know that anything further that I write here is just going to get glossed over in your fevered rush to hit the Play button below. I mean, it’s not everyday that a sequel to one of science-fiction’s greatest movies being made by one of Hollywood’s current best filmmakers gets a trailer. So don’t mind these words. Nothing to read here. Just go ahead, hit that button below and enjoy the sci-fi goodness!

Damn! How stunning does that look?! Which should not really be all that surprising as Villeneuve has once again roped in acclaimed cinematographer Roger Deakins (who got nominated for an Oscar for his work on both Sicario and Prisoners) to provide us with those arresting visuals. This pairing has delivered visual masterpieces before, and it looks like they continuing that trend here.

Now while this teaser trailer is gorgeous to look at, it doesn’t really tell us much about the story other than the fact that Ryan Gosling is starring in it alongside Harrison Ford, who reprises his original role as Rick Deckard, the “blade runner” tasked with tracking down illegal Replicants in the first film. And who may/may not have been a Replicant himself. But thanks to The Playlist we now also have a plot synopsis for the film which gives us our first real plot details.

Thirty years after the events of the first film, a new blade runner, LAPD Officer K (Ryan Gosling), unearths a long-buried secret that has the potential to plunge what’s left of society into chaos. K’s discovery leads him on a quest to find Rick Deckard (Harrison Ford), a former LAPD blade runner who has been missing for 30 years.

This plot reveals actually lines up with the recent news that Ford might have a smaller role than we previously thought, as it sounds to me that they’re pulling a bit of a Star Wars: The Force Awakens here. Although Ford will certainly have a lot more screen time than Luke Skywalker’s single scene in that movie. Either way, after seeing the sci-fi brilliance that Villeneuve conjured up in Arrival, and now getting this stunning trailer, I could not be more stoked for this!

October 6, 2017 can’t get here quick enough!
