This new BEN-HUR trailer and chariot race featurette has a path for you

The new Ben-Hur remake is a conundrum. On the one hand, I’m a gigantic fan of both leads Jack Huston and Toby Kebbell, feeling both young actors should be far more famous than they actually are. But then on the other hand, the one that’s kind of gimpy looking and smells of cheese, I’m struggling to find any merit in remaking one of cinema’s greatest works. At least not by Timur Bekmanbetov!

And honestly none of the trailers I’ve seen thus far for the upcoming movie actually buoy my expectations much in any way. Especially not the new trailer which was just released yesterday – and it has Jesus in it! It also has a really bad choice in contemporary music for this trailer. The modern soft rock is just completely jarring when you got guys in skirts and sandals running around with in Biblical times. And then to just add insult to the injury, somebody thought it a good idea to have a broad breakdown of most of the film’s entire plot as well. So, no, I’m not really getting hyped about this. Sorry, Mr Huston and Mr Kebbell.

Check it out below.

Ben-Hur is the epic story of Judah Ben-Hur (Jack Huston), a prince falsely accused of treason by his adopted brother Messala (Toby Kebbell), an officer in the Roman army. Stripped of his title, separated from his family and the woman he loves (Nazanin Boniadi), Judah is forced into slavery. After years at sea, Judah returns to his homeland to seek revenge, but finds redemption.

Along with the trailer, a new featurette has also been released which focuses on the movie’s climactic chariot race, which the director apparently tried to pull off with as little stunt doubles or CG effects as possible.

Ben-Hur also stars Morgan Freeman, Rodrigo Santoro, Nazanin Boniadi, Ayelet Zorer and Sofia Black-D’Elia. It releases internationally on August 19, but we’ll have to wait to September 9 to see it. Probably won’t be a problem.
