We'll be visiting 1984 again with Paul Greengrass directing

One of my favourite books is the dystopia novel 1984 by George Orwell, a book that projected the worries and concerns of the post-war era into a future where government, aided by technology, controlled the population.

Come to think of it, it’s not too far removed from what is happening now with NSA hacks, drones spying on you, and Trevor constantly peeping into your shower when you least expect it. So I am rather happy to hear via Deadline that Director Paul Greengrass (Captain Philips, The Bourne Supremacy, The Bourne Ultimatum) is adapting his own version of the classic book.

Joining him will be the very qualified Gina Rosenblum. Why is she qualified you may ask? Well she’s only already gone and produced a 1984 movie with actor John Hurt back in, well… 1984. Also joining the team is Scot Rudin who worked with Greengrass on Captain Phillips, so that  partnership to go on we may be onto gold!

If you are the one person out there who doesn’t know what happens in 1984 here is the synopsis:

The story of Winston Smith is set in the year 1984, after a global atomic war, via his perception of life in Airstrip One (the former United Kingdom), a province of Oceania, one of the world’s three superstates; his intellectual rebellion against the Party and illicit romance with Julia; and his consequent imprisonment, interrogation, torture, and re-education by the Think Police in the Miniluv.

No date has been set for the movie we will keep you posted. Also, if you haven’t seen Rosenblum’s version of 1984 do yourself a favour and fix that, brilliant acting from legend Hurt.
