Goon

You ever watch Goon? It’s an easy film with an easy-enough plot. The 2011 flick starred Seann William Scott as an incredibly nice (but dimwitted) guy who somehow wound up playing ice hockey in the most fearsome position possible: The enforcer.

If you don’t follow sports from Canada, then all you need to know about that position is that its usually reserved for the meanest, toughest SOB in the team, someone who would delight in inflicting grievous bodily harm. That position, paired with Scott’s character Doug Glatt made for a surprisingly enjoyable film.

It’s a cult classic, and one that is certainly deserving of a sequel. And according to Scott, filming starts later this year on that follow-up. Speaking on a Reddit AMA, Scott revealed that the shoot would begin in the USA summer and that he’d been in training for the sequel. Although it sounds as if Scott will be getting off the ice a bit, and into an octagon ring:

Heh! Well, I did a bit of fight training for GOON. For GOON 2, I’ve been fight-training for the past month, and next month in May I start working with an MMA fighter, and then some skating (obviously, a lot of skating). We start shooting GOON 2 in mid-June, and if everybody does their jobs and we execute the amazing script that Jay [Baruchel] and his co-writer wrote, the fucking movie would be wicked.

There’s no word yet on whether Goon director Michael Dowse will return to direct, but here’s hoping he will. Now go out and rent a DVD of Goon this weekend. You’ll be doing yourself a favour when you watch this gem.

The part where his ankle breaks was too much, cool movie though. Funny as hell.
