Just take a quick look around the site at all the Doctor Who coverage we do, and you’ll realize that we dig it when things go all wibbly-wobbly timey-wimey. And that seems to be exactly what’s happening to Ethan Hawke in upcoming sci-fi thriller Predestination, even though he may not be flying around in a big blue box.
What he does have though, is an intriguing concept – even it feels an awful lot like a mish-mash of Timecop and Minority Report – based off a short story from sci-fi legend Robert A. Henlein. Hawke is once again teaming up with directing brothers Michael and Peter Spierig who also helmed Daybreakers, and based on that vampire flick, you can be probably be assured that this will look good (as the trailer definitely does) and have some reasonably entertaining beats. We’ll have to wait and see whether they actually stick the landing on this one though.
The film chronicles the life of a Temporal Agent (Hawke) sent on an intricate series of time-travel journeys designed to ensure the continuation of his law enforcement career for all eternity. Now, on his final assignment, the Agent must pursue the one criminal that has eluded him throughout time.
Predestination also stars Sarah Snook and Noah Taylor. It has already opened to limited release in some countries (where it’s earned pretty decent reviews), but gets a proper international release on January 9. 2015.
