You really shouldn’t give Hollywood ideas. Case in point: Remember how Machete went from being a sort of fake trailer/inside joke in Robert Rodriguez and Quentin Tarantino’s Grindhouse and then eventually ended up being a whole movie franchise for real? Well, it’s happening again.

This time around the joke came from Chris Rock’s Top Five, a genuinely fantastic rom-com that nowhere near enough people have seen. Clearly Tyler Perry saw it though, and more specifically he caught Rock’s joke about how even Perry would jump on the pop culture zombie craze to make a horror movie starring his grandmotherly on-screen creation Madea. Because that’s exactly what he’s gone and done!

Yes, Boo! A Madea Halloween is now a real thing that actually exists and it even has a trailer to prove it. Check it out below.

In TYLER PERRY’S BOO! A MADEA HALLOWEEN, Madea winds up in the middle of mayhem when she spends a hilarious, haunted Halloween fending off killers, paranormal poltergeists, ghosts, ghouls and zombies while keeping a watchful eye on a group of misbehaving teens.

I’ve yet to actually sit through an entire Madea movie, so I’m definitely not the target audience for this. I’m not even totally confident that the target audience is the target audience for this! But it has to be said, that Perry is actually a savvy filmmaker who has basically Leon Schustered himself into a role that may not exactly be high art, but which just continuously brings in cash (he was the highest paid entertainer in Hollywood for a couple years recently thanks to the seemingly endless Madea empire). So it could be that Perry knows exactly what he’s doing here and this might just be another… *cough* monstrous Madea hit.

Boo! A Madea Halloween also stars Bella Thorne, Jimmy Tatro, Diamond White, Kian Lawley, and Yousef Erakat. It is scheduled for release on October 21, 2016.
