Heroes know how to use their powers for the greater good. Villains know how to use that same power to throw their enemies and they buildings they reside within, into outer space. But what does a regular guy do with such power? If it were up to me, pretty much anything I’d want to do, especially if there were none of those meddling consequences in the way. And that’s the premise for Absolutely Anything, which sees director Terry Jones team up with his fellow surviving Monty Python members to pull a very British Bruce Almighty.

Absolutely Anything follows a disillusioned school teacher (Pegg) who suddenly finds he has the ability to do anything he wishes, a challenge bestowed upon him by a group of power-crazed aliens (voiced by Cleese, Gilliam, Jones, Palin & Idle), watching him from space. As he struggles to deal with these new found powers and the events that subsequently arise, he calls upon his loyal canine companion Dennis (voiced by Robin Williams) to help him along the way. Mishap after mishap finally leads him to the ultimate conundrum that all men dread and at which many have failed….should he choose the girl….or the dog….?

It’s the first time since 1983’s The Meaning Of Life that all living Pythons have been reunited for a film, albeit voicing CGI-generated aliens who may have gone mad with power. And I kinda dig it. The trailer is a bit on the wackier side of unlimited power, but knowing the Pythons and Jones especially, there’s most likely a far darker side to all of this, which Jones sort of confirmed when Collider quizzed on the plot.

And that’s the kind of humour I’m just dying to see again. Absolutely Anything is out in August in the UK. It stars Simon Pegg, Kate Beckinsale, Rob Riggle, Sanjeev Bhaskar, Eddie Izzard,Joanna Lumley,Robert Bathurst and Robin Williams as the voice of the biscuit-obsessed dog. Terry Jones, Michael Palin, John Cleese, Terry Gilliam and Eric Idle voice the aliens.
