World of Warcraft Cataclysm Shatters Previous Warcraft Record

The third expansion pack to the absurdly popular MMO World of Warcraft, Cataclysm, has broken previous records set by the series. Although no distinction between physical and digital sales was given, the expansion made its way in to 3.3 million homes in its first 24 hours on sale.

Sure, it’s less than 5.5 million units Black Ops sold in its first day, but considering that was multiplatform – and that Cataclysm is just an expansion – it’s quite impressive. Of course, with both games coming in under the Activision-Blizzard banner, you can bet Bobby Kotick’s maniacally grinning all the way to bank, flossing with100 dollar bills as he goes.

"We had to bring Azeroth to the brink of destruction in Cataclysm, but the result was our best expansion yet," said Blizzard CEO and co-founder Mike Morhaime,  "We want to thank all of our new, existing, and returning players throughout the world for their incredible enthusiasm and support, and we look forward to hearing what they think about all the new content."

Thos of you who do play, what do you think of Cataclysm (or Cata as it’s been endearingly referred as)? Is it everything you wanted? from where I’m sitting, it looks like 3.3 million people can’t be wrong…but that sill doesn’t mean I’m going to be visiting Azeroth any time soon.

Nice headline… I see what you did there 😉

Let me just say that WOW has completely changed not only geographically but also in the way end game is played.

Can I get a slow clap?
