Name a decent video game movie, if you can. Silent Hill? Ok, I’ll give you that one. The first Mortal Kombat? Alright, that also counts. Postal? In a surreal manner, then yes.

Now keep quiet already, so that I can prove a point over here, with Wreck-It Ralph!15/10 films based on video games are generally terrible, with only one decent film coming along every few years, when the planets align correctly. Well, it looks like Jupiter is finally in the right position, because Wreck-It Ralph looks like such a film.

The film looks like your usual CGI funfare so far, but with enough reverence towards other video game properties as well. See for yourself in the following screenshots:

See if you can spot some of them in the background. John C. Reilly voices the Ralph, with Jane Lynch doing the audio duties for Sgt. Calhoun, from Hero’s Duty.

Ralph (voice of John C. Reilly), tired of being overshadowed by Fix-It Felix, Jr. (voice of Jack McBrayer), the “good guy” star of their game, sets off on a quest to prove he’s got what it takes to be a hero.

His arcade-game-hopping journey kicks off at Game Central Station, an industrial power strip that serves as the central hub connecting every game in the arcade.

Wreck-It Ralph is out later this year, in time for the holidays.
