WWE Monday Night RAW took place from the Thompson-Boling Arena in Knoxville, Tennessee. Here’s all the action that went down last night.
Elias and The Miztourage confronted Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns
New champ, who dis? Having successfully managed to pry the Intercontinental championship off of The Miz and secure a grand slam collection of belts for his legacy, Roman Reigns was in a good mood. A mood to fight that is, as the new champ issued an open challenge. Which was met by the remnants of the Miztourage, as the A-Lister was nowhere to be seen after he was caught in a Shield Triple Powerbomb last week.
Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel may not have been ready to lock horns with Roman Reigns later in the night, but they did introduce one man crazy enough to take on the big dog: Elias.
Seth Rollins def. Raw Tag Team Champion Cesaro
Cesaro and Sheamus may be the current RAW tag team champions, but their efforts since then haven’t exactly showcased why they’re championship-material. With Sheamus defeated last week by Dean Ambrose, it was up to Cesaro to save face when he met former tag champ Seth Rollins in the ring. A task that was easier said than done, as a well-timed superkick and Ripcord combo put Cesaro down for the count.
Just in time for Dean Ambrose to invoke a rematch clause for the belts on RAW next week.
Samoa Joe def. Titus O’Neil
Deciding to finish up any lingering business with Titus O’Neil, Samoa Joe’s match against the Big Deal was brutal to say the least. While O’Neil did offer some resistance, it did little to stop the Samoan Machine from bulldozing through his competition, eventually ending the match with a Coquina Clutch. A deadly move, that soon found its way around the throat of Apollo Crews, as Joe cleaned up in the ring.
Paige, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville confronted Sasha Banks
The RAW Women’s division has some new blood in the ring, as the trio of Paige, Mandy Rose and Sonya Deville is ready to kickstart a new revolution under the team name of Absolution. Wanting to attack Sasha Banks again, Absolution made short work of Bayley and Mickie James backstage as they derailed the plan for a a six-woman tag team match.
Absolution’s game? To remind the women’s division that it was Paige who had kickstarted the revolution in the WWE’s women’s locker room, not the likes of Charlotte Flair, Asuka or Alexa Bliss. Banks was given a chance to bend the knee or face the consequences, but the Boss decided to throw down instead with Paige. A plucky move, but the numbers game quickly got the better of Banks.
Bray Wyatt def. Matt Hardy
There’s something odd about Matt Hardy lately. In fact, you could say that he’s on the verge of being…broken. In a match against Bray Wyatt, Matt Hardy’s attempt to connect a Moonsault was instead turned into a Sister Abigail finisher for Wyatt, earning him the win. Finally snapping, Matt Hardy sat in the ring, chanting one word over and over again: DELETE.
Let the games begin, because this sounds…DELIGHTFUL.
Rich Swann def. Akira Tozawa, Noam Dar and Ariya Daivari
In cruiserweight action, a Fatal 4-Way between the cruiserweights kicked off. The first of a pair of events to find challengers that would face off against current champ Enzo Amore, this match ended with Rich Swann triumphing against the likes of Akira Tozawa, Noam Dar and Ariya Daivari thanks to a Phoenix Splash of note on the Scottish Supernova.
Intercontinental Champion Roman Reigns def. Elias
In his first defense of the Intercontinental Championship, Roman Reigns won…but at what cost? Elias fought smart, attempting to ground the champ as the Miztourage did their best to distract him at ringside, but the Big Dog powered through with a Spear that hit the mark and took Elias down for the count.
Victory, but one that was met by Samoa Joe’s Coquina Clutch as the Samoan Machine ambushed the champ and applied the deadly hold to his new rival.
Asuka def. Dana Brooke
They say the third time’s the charm, as Dana Brooke claimed that she finally had a gameplan that could defeat Asuka in the ring. Spoiler: Nobody can prepare for the Empress of Tomorrow, as Brooke learnt the hard way. Again.
Kane def. Jason Jordan
Looking to prove that his knee injury had already healed, Jason Jordan put up a terrific fight against the big red machine known as Kane. Turns out that Jordan’s knee may not have been rehabbed as well as he thought, as Kane discovered when he tossed the plucky superstar outside of the ring. Landing badly, Jordan’s tweaked knee flared up again as he painfully hobbled back to the ring.
It was all for naught however, as Jordan was counted out and Kane was declared the winner. Not satisfied with the carnage inflicted, Kane began beating up on Jordan, signalling Finn Balor to rush to the ring to lend some aid.
Finn Bálor def. Kane via Disqualification
Even Balor’s assist didn’t help for long though, as Kane’s rampage continued in another match in the ring. Could anything stop this monster? Yup! A bigger monster in the form of Braun Strowman, as the gift of destruction arrived for some sweet payback after Kane almost broke his throat last week. Delivering a Running Powerslam on top of the dreaded steel steps, Strowman slammed a chair into the demon’s throat twice, forcing Kane to flee from the ring.
