WWE RAW Results August 20 – The Roman Empire rises

WWE Monday Night RAW took place from the Barclays Center in Brooklyn, New York. Here’s all the action that went down the night after Summerslam.

Universal Champion Roman Reigns named Finn Bálor as his first challenger

The age of the Roman Empire, has begun. With the WWE Universal championship finally within Roman Reigns’ possession, the new champ decided to hit the ground running and name his personal pick for the first challenger to his title: The first WWE Universal champion, Finn Balor. The extraordinary man won that title by sacrificing his own body in the process, and Reigns realised that Balor had technically never lost the title.

Constable Baron Corbin had other ideas for the night however, claiming that his Summerslam bout against Balor’s demon persona was a violation of his contract and thus he was more deserving of a title shot. RAW General Manager Kurt Angle decided to intervene, nixing the idea and putting Corbin in a different match for the night against Bobby Lashley.

Fighting someone his own size for once, Corbin’s attempt to outmuscle Lashley was a futile effort and quickly saw the Lone Wolf crushed by the former ECW champ.

The Riott Squad def. Sasha Banks, Bayley and Ember Moon

Proving that their win last week wasn’t a fluke, the Riott Squad’s teamwork managed to isolate Sasha Banks, with Ruby Riott nailing her signature kick to keep the boss down for the count.

Dean Ambrose def. Dolph Ziggler

No good Dean goes undone, and with the Lunatic Fringe returning to help Seth Rollins reclaim the Intercontinental championship, Dean Ambrose was looking to lace up is boots and have a showdown with the former champ Dolph Ziggler. With Seth Rollins watching his back and keeping Drew McIntyre distracted, Ambrose used pure power to catch a leaping DDT from Ziggler and slam him down with Dirty Deeds to close the match.

Elias def. Curt Hawkins

Even with a hometown advantage, the legendary Curt Hawkins losing streak extended to 219 matches in a row after Elias caught the valiant challenger with a Drift Away.

AOP def. Titus Worldwide

Here’s another chapter in the book of carnage currently being penned by the Authors of Pain, as Akam and Rezar grabbed yet another victory over the Titus O’Neil and Apollo Crews.

Ronda Rousey attacked Stephanie McMahon during her Raw Women’s Championship ceremony

The Baddest Woman on the Planet was in no mood for Stephanie McMahon’s attempt to steal the spotlight, as the UFC champ decided to remind the heir apparent that it was the Octagon that had transformed her into a feared ring warrior, not Stephanie.

Are Bo Dallas and Curtis Axel worthy tag team champions? The B-Team found out the hard way last night that their in-ring skills might leave something to be desired, as Bo Dallas suffered a singles match loss to The Revival’s Scott Dawson last night…

Raw Commissioner Stephanie McMahon named Baron Corbin the Acting General Manager of Raw

Feeling somewhat miffed after having being manhandled by Ronda Rousey in the ring, Stephanie McMahon decided to clean house and give Kurt Angle some time off with a forced vacation. Who’ll run RAW while Angle is gone? None other than Baron Corbin, Stephanie’s new acting General Manager of the show of shows. Yeah, this is going to work out well.

Universal Champion Roman Reigns def. Finn Bálor; The Shield reformed to take out Braun Strowman

After two years, Finn Balor finally had a chance to reclaim the WWE Universal championship, but his efforts came up short against the fighting champion. The real story however, was in the appearance of Braun Strowman, who looked ready to finally cash in his money in the bank contract. Before the briefcase could be opened however, Strowman’s shot at glory was interrupted by the return of Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins, decked out in the signature black colours of The Shield.

Reunited, The Shield decided to stop the Gift of Destruction by setting him up for their iconic triple powerbomb, slamming the monster through an announce table and ending RAW for the night.
