WWE Smackdown LIVE took place from the Honda Center in Anaheim, California. Here’s all the action that went down.

John Cena and AJ Styles confronted new WWE Champion Bray Wyatt

Smackdown February 14 (1)

The reign of Bray Wyatt as the latest WWE Champion has indeed begun. After managing to outlast the best talent on the Smackdown roster in the Elimination Chamber, Bray kicked off the show with a coronation that was soon interrupted by former champs John Cena and AJ Styles. Two men who had real deal rematch clauses that they wanted to cash in on.

Realising this, general manager Daniel Bryan entered the fray to announce the main event for the night: A triple-threat match between the superstars for Bray’s brand spankin’ new title.

American Alpha defeated The Ascension

Smackdown February 14 (2)

American Alpha may have managed to beat every tag team in the land of Smackdown at the Elimination Chamber event, but the Ascension managed to put up a surprisingly effective effort towards almost stopping them on Sunday. In a rematch of sorts, the two teams went at it with full gusto. But American Alpha proved why they’re at the top of the card, with a Gran Amplitude to Viktor that saw them retain their titles.

All this, while The Usos glared on from a Titantron stream…

Baron Corbin savagely attacked Dean Ambrose

Smackdown February 14 (3)

Last night was supposed to be a singles match between Dean Ambrose and James Ellsworth after the chinless superstar thanks to his mouth running wild. But Baron Corbin had other ideas. Attacking Ambrose backstage, Corbin continued his assault all the way through to the entrance ramp, with a vicious Deep Six through the electrical equipment that left Ambrose out like a light.

Mickie James defeated Becky Lynch

Smackdown February 14 (4)

In another Elimination Chamber rematch, it was time for Mickie James to face Becky Lynch once again on Smackdown. And while Lynch put up a spirited fight, the wily James managed to use some craft and cunning to line her competition up for a Mick Kick that earned her the win.

New SmackDown Women’s Champion Naomi was interrupted by Alexa Bliss

Smackdown February 14 (5)

RAW may have Bayley as the latest women’s champion on that brand, but Smackdown also has a new lady wearing the coveted gold title around her waist: Naomi! The new champ fought tooth and nail for the belt, injuring her knee in the process which was something that former champ Alexa Bliss had very little mercy for.

Demanding her stipulated rematch, Bliss gave Naomi short notice that she’d either be defending her title or submitting to Bliss next week when the two clash again.

WWE Champion Bray Wyatt defeated John Cena and AJ Styles in a Triple Threat Match

Smackdown February 14 (7)

Bray Wyatt may have been in trouble before the main event even began after he was blindsided by Luke Harper, but somehow the WWE Champion endured. In a titanic match-up, John Cena, AJ Styles and Bray Wyatt threw everything and the kitchen sink at each other in pursuit of the WWE championship. But after Cena managed to toss AJ Styles out of the ring, Bray pounced on him with a Sister Abigail that ended the bout with his title secure around his waist.

Smackdown February 14 (6)

After the match, Randy Orton then appeared. As the winner of the 2017 Royal Rumble, Orton had the opportunity to create his own main event at Wrestlemania and challenge for the gold. But the Viper instead pledged that he would never face Bray Wyatt for the title, an act of devotion that made the Eater of Worlds very happy as Smackdown went off the air.

  1. We ALL know the Viper is going to strike before Wrestle Mania. It is in his nature. Is it just me, or is it much easier these days to predict the way things are going in the WWE?

    Bray Wyatt > Randy Boredom
Mickie James = Bailey > the whole Smackdown/Raw roster!

PS: Darryn, did you hear that Lucha Underground is coming to Netflix!? 😀

Well out of the 30+ articles I do every week, usually 2-3 of them are wrestling-related Mr Grumpy-Pants.

Fair enough… I just use to enjoy the soul of your Articles on Lazygamer… But it seems you have lost that touch… Don’t know if it is you just “doing your job now”, but there is definitely something missing/wrong these days

I don’t exactly see what you mean? I’m still pretty much writing in my usual style, which usually consists of strange references to weird movies, toilet humour and self-deprecation? The only real difference now is that I get to expand this to my other passions of toys, comic books, wrestling and gaming.

Maybe it is just me that has changed. But a couple of years ago, I would visit your page 3 – 4 times a day and enjoy it… Now its more like 3 – 4 a month and then cringe at some of these articles…

Be careful Geoffrey, he might poke back with The D.

There’s been no real change in editorial policy sinc ethe rebrand. Darryn’s putting out exactly the same amount of content as he was before, and it’s not really changed. As for money? We’re still as broke as we ever were. 🙂

Tell you wot though – I’ll poke Darryn with a stick and say “BE MORE FUN YE BASTID”
