WWE Smackdown was taped at Wells Fargo Arena in Des Moines, Iowa this week. Featuring Kevin Owens and Dean Ambrose in a straight-jacket, here’s what went down.
Opening segment
Smackdown opens with Dean Ambrose in the ring, as he continues to up the ante with his feud against Chris Jericho. The lights mysteriously go out, and Y2J is in the ring, beating down on Ambrose. Jericho puts a straight-jacket on Ambrose, hits him with a codebreaker and vanishes as he tells all the fans that they will soon receive the “gift of Jericho”.
Rusev defeats Sin Cara
Rusev cut a quick promo backstage, as he was none too happy with his match on Monday Night RAW that may have had some interference in it and caused him a loss. The actual match was short and sweet, as Rusev demolished both lucha dragons.

Renee Young interviews Emma, formally introduces Dana Brooke and reveals that she’ll face Becky Lynch on her first Smackdown match.
Dana Brooke defeats Becky Lynch
Another short match, as Dana Brooke picks up her very first Smackdown win.
Backstage
AJ Styles tells Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson that Roman Reigns will be taken care of, if he decides to interfere in their match with the Usos on Smackdown later in the night.
Aiden English defeats Kofi Kingston
English makes short work of Kingston, sneakily using the ropes to help with a dirty pin. Simon Gotch, Xavier Woods and Big E were all present at ringside, but were ejected from ringside.
Backstage
Roman Reigns tells the Usos that if AJ gets involved, he’ll get involved as well. Yay.
The Usos defeat Luke Gallows and Karl Anderson via DQ.
The Usos looked like they were going to walk away with the Smackdown win tonight, until Gallows introduced a steel chair to their faces. Disqualified, Anderson and Gallows continued the steel chair symphony to claim a different kind of victory.
Backstage
R-Truth sets up his very first selfie stick with Tyler Breeze, while Fandango teaches Goldust how to dance. Because wrestling.
R-Truth and Tyler Breeze defeat Fandango and Goldust
R-Truth and Goldust initially refused to fight each other, so Breeze and Fandango decided to turn on them. SHOCK! The new dastardly duo beat down on their mentors, leaving the ring together and hopefully putting an end to one of the silliest storylines to ever be broadcast on Smackdown.
Cesaro and Sami Zayn vs. Kevin Owens and The Miz ends in a no contest
Because the Miz decided to put Kevin Owens, his partner, in the Skull-crushing finale. Sami Zayn also managed to accidentally give Cesaro the Helluva Kick by accident, while Owens recovered and threw the Miz into the ring for Cesaro and Zayn to beat down on. Each of the stars hit their finishers on the Miz, with Smackdown ending as Cesaro and Zayn stood in the ring.
