WWE Smackdown this week took place from the FedEx Forum in Memphis, Tennessee. Here’s all the action that went down.
Shane McMahon made a major Elimination Chamber announcement
It’s been missing from the pay-per-view circuit for years, but Smackdown kicked off last night with commissioner Shane McMahon revealing that the demonic structure would soon headline a new Elimination Chamber event where the WWE Championship would be on the line. Not exactly happy with the news, current champ AJ Styles hit the ring to protest the use of that deadly cage, should he even retain his title against John Cena at the Royal Rumble.
Deciding to also trade some words, Cena himself and The Miz entered the fray, with Shane deciding to kick Smackdown off proper with the two heels facing each other in the first match of the night.
AJ Styles vs. The Miz ended in a No Contest
And what a match it was! While John Cena kept an eye on his competition from the commentary booth, The Miz and Styles battled to retain any momentum as the action increased in scale. And then Styles decided to take a cheap shot at Cena, prompting the Cenation leader to rush the ring, dodging a flung Miz and landing an AA on the phenomenal one.
Nikki Bella and Natalya got into it at the merchandise stand
Nikki Bella was in the Smackdown ring next, demanding that Natalya face her so that the two could settle their feud once and for all. Yeah, that wasn’t happening exactly as mistress of the Sharpshooter decided to stick to the merchandise area outside the arena and ridicule Nikki instead. Not exactly the wisest of moves, as Nikki rushed outside to introduce Natalya to the business end of the merch stand, prompting security to seperate the two superstars before they damaged any more of that precious gear.
That T-shirt was done broken in half!
Dean Ambrose defeated Randy Orton
What happens when two madmen face off? You get a slobber-knocker of a match, as Dean Ambrose faced off against the Viper on Smackdown. Both men had plenty to prove, scrapping and duking it out in the ring until Luke Harper entered the equation at the worst possible time for Orton, disrupting an atempt to land an RKO from the co-ordinates of nowhere. Ambrose made good use of the opportunity, with a roll-up pin on a distracted Orton that earned him a win.
Livid after the match, Harper and Orton began introducing their fists to each other after the bout as Bray Wyatt rushed the ring to seperate the two and remind them of their place in the family hierarchy.
Jerry Lawler hosted “King’s Court” with special guest Dolph Ziggler
With Smackdown taking place in Memphis last night, it was the perfect time for the homegrown Jerry “The King” Lawler to revive his King’s Court talk show. And his first guest that night was none other than Dolph Ziggler, as Lawler attempted to get to the bottom of the show-off’s heelish new change in attitude lately. Ziggler wasn’t in the mood for 20 questions however, as he reminded the hall of famer of a previous beatdown that he inflicted to the king a few years ago.
Still bearing a grudge, the King began insulting Ziggler, and got a fresh new beatdown in the process that ended with an almighty superkick to the chest as Ziggler walked off from an attempted round of regicide.
SmackDown Women’s Champion Alexa Bliss defeated Becky Lynch in a Steel Cage Match
History was made last night, as current Smackdown Women’s champ Alexa Bliss defended her title in a steel cage against a very determined Becky Lynch. The main event was firing on all cylinders, with each superstar throwing everything that they had at each other and then some. But just when it looked like Lynch would seal the deal on a win and regain her lost championship, disaster struck!
Correction, La Luchadora struck and dropped a foot to Lynch as she was in the middle of applying a Dis-Arm-Her to Bliss. Bliss took advantage, connected a DDT to the spine of Lynch and victory was hers. But just who was that La Luchadora? Well that mystery was finally revealed, as the mask came off and Mickie James stood revealed, ending Smackdown with a mystery solved at long last.

She’s not a real luchador! A real luchador would never intentionally take off their mask!(or at least that’s what the 1 Wikipedia article I read said)
