WWE Summerslam (2)

WWE Summerslam, the penultimate cornerstone of the big four events, kicked off at the Barclays Center in New York City last night. With titles from across RAW and Smackdown LIVE on the line, it was also a night of grudge matches and spectacles as some belts changed hands and others remained around the waists of their dominant champions.

Here’s all the action that went down:

WWE Summerslam (4)

  • The Miz and The Miztourage def. The Hardy Boyz and Jason Jordan
  • Neville def. Akira Tozawa to become the new WWE Cruiserweight Champion
  • John Cena def. Baron Corbin
  • Natalya def. Naomi to become SmackDown Women’s Champion
  • Big Cass def. Big Show
  • Randy Orton def. Rusev
  • The Usos def. The New Day to become SmackDown Tag Team Champions
  • Sasha Banks def. Alexa Bliss to become the new Raw Women’s Champion
  • “The Demon” Finn Bálor def. Bray Wyatt
  • Dean Ambrose & Seth Rollins def. Cesaro & Sheamus to become the new Raw Tag Team Champions
  • United States Champion AJ Styles def. Kevin Owens (Shane McMahon – Special Guest Referee)
  • WWE Champion Jinder Mahal def. Shinsuke Nakamura
  • WWE Universal champion Brock Lesnar def. Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns

What a night! The first big title change of the night kicked off with Neville regaining the Cruiserweight title that he had lost a week ago to Akira Tozawa on Monday Night RAW, as the king returned to his throne with an almighty Red Arrow on the Stamina King. The night would also see Smackdown Women’s champion Naomi dethroned as Natalya’s dreaded Sharpshooter submission hold was locked in dead center in the ring.

Titles would also change hands as the proponents of positivity known as the New Day found their biggest guns squashed by Jimmy and Jey Uso. Next, it was Alexa Bliss who saw her championship stripped away from her as little miss Bliss submitted to the excruciating pain of a Banks Statement in a hard-fought match for the ages.

The last big title change of the night saw former Shield brothers Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins reborn as a team, handing a solid defeat to Cesaro and Sheamus as they emerged as the new top faces of the RAW tag team division. The night would then see the rest of the champs hold onto their belts. AJ Styles managed to stave off a crafty Kevin Owens in a bid for the United States championship, while WWE champion Jinder Mahal barely survived Shinsuke Nakamura’s strong style in the ring.

The biggest match of the night, was one where giants clashed. Brock Lesnar, Braun Strowman, Samoa Joe and Roman Reigns. Titans in one fatal fourway where only one man could walk away as the WWE Universal champion. That man…was Brock Lesnar. In a match where ever competitor shaved years off of each other’s lifespans with slams, suplexes and heavy blows, it was the Beast Incarnate who walked away with the biggest title in the WWE.

Despite taking an entire trio of Superman Punches from Reigns, Lesnar was still able to survive the absolute pandemonium of the night when he turned a Spear attempt into an F5. Connecting with devastating fashion, Lesnar retained his position as the top dog of the WWE for one more night.

Barely.

We’re still the same people writing buddy. We’re just diversifying our passions more. If you really don’t like this content, just remember that there is a dedicated gaming hub on the front page. Merely a single click away.

I am afraid , when i land here and see a WWE or WWF or TNT or what ever that i just loose interest so quick…In fact it was when you guys where still lazygamer.net you posted an article of a guy who predicted 3 years of wwe wwf trnt what ever, basically he predicted with 97% success the outcomes of matches for 3 years. I imagine that this gen has be kak on you guys with so many less games being published etc but i dont see why you are covering this i really really really dont. If you where struggling for content , get in touch with developers ? lets see more developers stories etc etc WWF is not worth the power it takes to switch on the laptop and write the article on it. Sorry, from 3 visits a day on lazy to 1 visit a month as critical ….you lost me as a hardcore gamer and i see no value of returning to this website and you posting WWF . Hell you could be covering tech/science a whole bunch of stuff…WWF is the pits. Its as bad an the cANCer running our country into the ground. Thanks for the old memories, lazy will still go down as my fav, and friends tattoo looks so out of place now 🙁

The thing is, it’s not worth the effort to *you*. And while I’m always sad to lose a reader, I’ve gained plenty more in the last two years who adore this stuff. I can’t please everyone, but I can at least try to please as many people as I can.

I love sports entertainment. So do millions of other people. I write about what I love, because that’s what gets me up in the mornings. Do I enjoy rugby, beer or Game of Thrones? Hell no, but I’m also mature enough to realise that other people do and good for them that they do. Let people enjoy things in life, it won’t impact you in the slightest.

We’ve given you options to just read gaming news, which still dominates most of our daily free content. If you don’t want to and would prefer to complain about me writing 2-3 WWE articles a week out of the 100 plus posts that are published weekly, then too bad.

          Have a nice day.

Do you have a screenshot at least? I’d like to see if this is something from our plug-ins causing trouble and if it can be fixed.

I am afraid i do not. Its those big icons, that keep rotating, your code , obviously or not obviously, doesnt sort it according to “categories” ie entertainment is popping up in gaming , and or vice n versa. I rekon you need to make sure “gaming” rotates only tagged “gaming” articles , and not “gaming” + “Entertainment” unless you made a mistake and tagged it as both hence its appearing on both…my 2 cents

Weird, I’m not seeing it at all. Content is properly aggregated on my side.

Ya know, as someone who hates the content pumped out by the WWE (and I seriously really really hate it, more than mere words can convey), I find your blasting of these articles on this site to be EXTREMELY narrow minded.
You don’t like that there’s an article about WWE? Simple. Don’t read it.
This site offers SO much more than that. There’s still PLENTY of gaming content, but now there’s also a whole lot of other interesting stuff.
I, too, was initially bummed when they changed from lazygamer to critical hit, but ya know what, that’s life. Things change all the time. And all their new content has not taken away from the top notch content these guys pump out every day, content that we, as the consumers, do not pay a cent for.
C’mon man, don’t knock these dudes for adding in the odd article here or there of something you don’t like. Focus on the positive.

Focus on the positive fair enough. But if you are asking me if i want to spend my free time here anymore having to contend with WWE ( i clicked the gaming section and truesBOB their it is in all it glory a WWE/f/x/y/pop a huge 25% major picture for the article) sorry i get to choose how i spend my time, been a avid reader for what seems atleast a generation and a bit.

As a head’s up, you can use this link for a site that has *only* games stuff.

We were covering WWE well before the switch to Critical Hit, and will continue doing so because it’s not replacing any of the content that came before it while also delivering content to those who do enjoy the show. Your personal preferences do not dictate our content, and there are many alternatives to filtering out what you don’t enjoy reading about.

If these systems are simply not enough to placate your love for our content, then I don’t know what else you expect.
