X-MEN: APOCALYPSE and WOLVERINE 3 could mark the end of an era

It’s been a massive journey for the X-Men franchise as of late. Kicked off in 2000 with the first film, the franchise would grow to include more sequels, Wolverine spin-offs and pseudo reboots in the years to come since then.

But it looks like the times are changing for the children of the Atom, as the era that Bryan Singer started may be drawing to a close. That’s according to one pinch of salt from regular Marvel/DC scooper El Mayimbe, who posted the following on Instagram:

#RUMOR I’m being told that X-MEN: APOCALYPSE & WOLVERINE 3 will mark the end of the Bryan Singer X-MEN universe he started back in 2000. Makes sense since Hugh Jackman also said Wolverine 3 will be his last film playing Logan. The end of an era.

I’m not exactly surprised. The regular gang of X-Men actors are getting on in their years, with a number of them confirming that their next films will be their final appearances. Michael Fassbender and Jennider Lawrence have already confirmed that they’ll be bowing out after X-Men: Apocalypse, while Hugh Jackman has labelled Wolverine 3 as his final stab at the character. Bub.

What Apocalypse does have however, is an all-new generation of X-Men that includes the likes of Tye Sheridan (Cyclops), Sophie Turner (Jean Grey), Alexandra Shipp (Storm), Kodi Smit-McPhee (Nightcrawler) and Ben Hardy (Angel). That’s a whole gang of children of tomorrow, who could easily carry a softly rebooted franchise over into a whole new series of flicks.

And I rate they deserve a chance to refresh the franchise if Singer and co are indeed waving goodbye when X-Men: Apocalypse debuts next year and Wolverine 3 the year after.
