With Disney having definite plans for their Marvel franchises which will extend through to two more Avengers movies, we’ve heard little as to what FOX plans to do with their key X-Men movie properties once director Bryan Singer wraps up on the latest flick, Days of Future Past.

Well get ready to let the enthusiasm flow, because the next big X-Men has just been revealed. And it’s going to be apocalyptic.

Apocalypse (2)

Singer and 20th Century Fox announced yesterday that X-Men: Apocalypse will be unleashed on May 27, 2016. No word yet on which X-Men team it’ll focus on, but it sounds like the big bad of that comic book series, Apocalypse will be making his presence known. Here’s the tweet from Singer himself:

So who is Apocalypse, you ask? He’s pretty much the first mutant, a millenia old Egyptian who was known as En Sabah Nur and is more obsessed with the concept of survival of the fittest than Hitler. An immortal conqueror, the madman actually once succeeded in taking over the planet in the iconic Age of Apocalypse storyline. That story saw Charles Xavier accidentally assassinated by his own time-hopping son Legion, leaving a world that was ripe for Apocalypse to take over, slaughtering billions in the process and having Magneto emerge as the leader of the X-Men.

Pretty complex stuff, and something that ComingSoon reckons will form the key storyline in the 2016 film, as several domains such as AgeofApocalypsemovie.com have been registered by Fox. It could work as well, seeing how Days of Future Past involves time travel, and with Singer involved in both films, a pretty damn decent continuation of the events that that film will set in place.

BEST NEWS EVER! will have to wait and see how Days of Future Past pans out to see which generation AoA is. My hope is they somehow fuck up fixing the future and mess it up so bad that Apocalypse exists, so we have Wolverine in the future with Cable (ie Cyclops and Jean Grey not dead or something) thus tying in XForce as well
